Rest Day in South Lake Tahoe, CA — 0 mi, 0 ft
This was the day I looked forward to the most, more than any other on the entire trip. Boat day
A little while back I heard whispers circulating throughout the team.
A boat? In Tahoe?
It was true, Nunu’s family booked us a rental boat in Tahoe. This was what motivated me to get out of Nevada. I endured some of the hardest days and nights of my life to get here. Going days and days without seeing a single body of water made the blue expanse feel alien when I laid eyes on the lake for the first time after climbing the sierras.
Again, I’m writing this blog after the trip ended, so my synopsis of the day is limited to the details that I can remember.
I remember when we left that morning, I was so happy that I didn’t even put up a fight when they asked to go to a coffee shop. I was in somewhat of a hurry, so I pulled some crazy maneuvers to get us through traffic fast. I went in to the coffee shop, looking for something. I hate on coffee shops, but I’ve since learned to adapt… by ordering whatever on the menu isn’t coffee. I was out of luck here though, there was nothing but coffee. 🙁.
Anyways, we made our way to the lake, the guy at the rental place gave me and nate the run down, and we were off.
We did some tubing, and wake boarding. Tatiana got up after only a few tries, as did Carmen. I took a bit longer though.

Afterwords, the lake got too choppy too keep wakeboarding, so we went through Emerald Bay.

Then we went swimming. The water was appropriately cold.

They told us to be back by 3 pm. We were there exactly at 3, as to not waste any time. My favorite activity of the whole summer had concluded. We spent the rest of the day doing other stuff: playing volleyball, eating pizza, then going to sleep.
This is my last blog of the summer. I learned that, if you really want to know someone well, bike across the country with them. These 6 are some of my favorite humans, and I am immensely grateful for everything they’ve done for me this summer. Nate gave me a draft. Tatiana gave me food. Carmen fixed my bike. Caroline educated me on nature. Nunu gave me soda. Aarushi said funny stuff that made me laugh. After the Zion incident, everybody came together to make sure I’d be able to finish the trip. Thanks, guys.
Signing off,
Drew
